Humperdinck is one of that band of composers known only for one work. But his opera, Hänsel and Gretel is rightly a favourite repertoire work in many opera houses.
Lost in the forest, Hänsel and Gretel sing this prayer in which they ask for fourteen angels to guard them while they sleep.

Performance note:
Play with simple expression throughout. The dynamic should remain quiet with some gently expressive phrasing. In attempting to play quietly do not let the warmth of tone suffer.
