10062 – A Puerto Rican Christmas
1. Aguinalda - José I. Quinton
2. Villancico Yaucano - Amaury Veray
3. La Trulla - Rafael Hernandez
arranged by Roger Harvey
Difficulty: Medium
Price: £25.00
Programme Note:
This selection of seasonal Puerto Rican songs was made at the request of the American ensemble, Burning River Brass for their visit to Puerto Rica in December 2006. Aguinalda and La Trulla are lively songs in folk-dance style, while Villancico Yaucano is more lyrically sentimental.
Performance note:
1: play in a cheeky, rhythmic style. The tuba solos should be lightly played, as if on tiptoe. In verse 1 the horn is subsidiary to the 1st trombone. At G avoid becoming aggressive, especially in the high trumpet part.
2: Keep the accompaniment light but well phrased. The high octave trumpet doubles should not be forced, treat the line as colouring the lower octave.
3: Play rhythmically and with a light-hearted style. Enjoy but do not go 'over the top'.
