Although Elgar played the trombone as an amateur and wrote some wonderful parts for it in his orchestral music, he virtually ignored it as a solo instrument.

Chanson de Matin is one of his favourite salon pieces, which he arranged for numerous combinations. He would probably approve, therefore, of this transcription for trombone and piano.

Performance notes:

Keep the style expressively cantabile but make the articulations clearly and lightly.
