10101 – Take Your Partner Set 1 Montmorency’s Minuet Percival’s Polka Tarquin’s Tango Roger Harvey (1949-) Difficulty: Very Easy Price: £20 Programme notes: This set of 3 dances provides the young player with some short, tuneful and technically straightforward pieces, which can be played alone or as a suite for concert performance, each dance being of a different character. Performance notes: Montmorency’s Minuet: aim for a lilting style, using the marked articulations carefully and a very slight emphasis on the beginnings of bars. Emphasise the difference in style between the opening and the cantabile music at B. Percival’s Polka: take care to obey the articulation markings but keep the style as light as possible. Use a relaxed, pointed tongue and good breath support to avoid the semiquavers becoming too dry. Make sure that the 3rd and 4th trumpets are not submerged by the upper parts at D. Tarquin’s Tango: play this very rhythmically with exaggerated articulation. Make sure hat the horn melody in the first section is not over-balanced by the accompaniment. |
