Programme notes:
K605, a set of 3 German Dances was written in 1791, not long before Mozart's untimely death. He was a keen dancer himslef and probably enjoyed writing dances in his capacity as Imperial Court Composer to Emperor Joseph II. This set is varied in orchestration and the 3rd is particularly attractive as it includes parts for 2 posthorns and tuned bells. The Trio section is entitled 'Die Schlittehfahrt' or Sleigh Ride.

Performance notes:
Play with a swagger but without becoming too heavy in style.
The timpani are optional but desirable.
The bells in the trio and coda can be substituted by sleigh bells if no glock or other suitable bells are available or can be doubled by sleigh bells if an extra player is available. The part is cued into the 2nd trombone; this player can either play the bells if necessary or double on sleigh bells is the same rhythm.
The posthorn parts in the trio can be played on real posthorns if available in the correct key for theatrical effect.
