15117 – In the Bleak Midwinter Harold Darke Arranged by Roger Harvey for 8 Trumpets Difficulty: Medium Price: £20.00 Programme notes: The famous poem of 1872 by Christina Rosetti was set to music by Gustav Holst in 1905. This slightly later version of 1911 by Harold Darke has become equally popular and was voted best Christmas carol in a 2008 poll. It is here arranged for an ensemble of 7 trumpets and a solo flugel horn Performance notes: Play sensitively and gently throughout, always allowing the melody line to stand out a little, especially when other voices go above it. The beginning of the second verse can be firmer but should still have a dolce feel |
