20026 - Canite Tuba in Sion

Hans Leo Hassler (1564-1612)

arranged for 20-piece brass ensemble by Roger Harvey

Difficulty: Medium

Price: £30.00

Programme note:

Hans Leo Hassler was born in Nuremburg, studied alongside Giovani Gabrieli in Venice and, on his return to Germany, became one the most influential composers of his generation. His output contains much secular music and also sacred pieces for both the Catholic and Protestant churches. He adopted and helped establish the Italian polyphonic style in Germany. His Sacri Concentus published in 1601 contains 30 sacred motets in 4-12 voices. Canite Tuba is originally in 5 parts, but has much internal counterpoint that makes it suitable for expantion into this 4 choir, 20-part version.

Performance note:

The 3rd part in each choir may be played by horns. If tubas are available they may double the lower trombone parts in the forte cadences. All dynamic and expression marks are editorial and should be considered as suggestions only. They give a reference for performance style if rehearsal time is limited but may be altered at the discretion of the performers.
