Sample played by London Brass 5011 – Invention in F J. S. Bach (1685-1750) Arranged by Roger Harvey Difficulty: Hard Price: £20.00 Programme notes: The 15 Inventions were written during Bach’s time as Kappelmeister to Prince Leopold of Cothen. They were intended as training exercises in keyboard playing but as with all of Bach’s didactic music, the quality of the writing completely transcends their mundane purpose. This arrangement of the Invention in F major was made by London Bass and features the horn and trombone in a virtuoso dialogue, observed from the sidelines by the other three instruments. Performance notes: Choose the tempo wisely! Horn and trombone should match articulation, not too short but clear and precise. The other instruments should keep well out of the way, playing very lightly and with a bouncy style. |
