5043 Somewhere Over The Rainbow
Harold Arlen/E.Y. Harburg
arranged for Brass Quintet
by Roger Harvey
Price: £22.50
Difficulty: Medium
Duration: 3' 15"
Programme note:
This classic standard was written for the film 'The Wizard of Oz' in 1939, sung there by Judy Garland and forever associated with her. She is rejected by her aunt and uncle and in the song she dreams of a place where she can't get into trouble.
It is considered one of the greatest movie songs of all time and has been repeatedly recorded and arranged.
Performance note:
The solo trumpet part should be played expressively but without becoming too intense; keep it simple but touching.
The accompaniment should remain gently supportive allowing the melody to float over it. Ensure, though, that the articulations are clear and precise even in this low dynamic range.
