arranged for Brass Quintet

by Roger Harvey

Price: £22.50

Difficulty: Medium

Programme note:
The words for the popular hymn, Morning has Broken were set by Eleanor Farjeon to an old Scottish tune known as Bunessan. The words express gratitude for the offerings of each new day. It was first published in the 1931 edition of Songs of Praise.

Morning has broken, like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning
Praise for the springing fresh from the word

Sweet the rain's new fall, sunlit from heaven
Like the first dewfall, on the first grass
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden
Sprung in completeness where his feet pass

Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning
Born of the one light, Eden saw play
Praise with elation, praise every morning
God's recreation of the new day.

Performance note:
Aim for a constantly flowing style, very cantabile. Use the marked breathing points rather than the obvious phrase endings to maintain a constant flow of sound without gaps.
