Programme notes:

Vejcanowsky was a Moravian composer, trumpeter and copyist. He spent much of his working life as trumpeter at the court of Prince-Bishop Leopold Wilhelm, son of Emperor Ferdinand II where he was apparently well appreciated since records tell us that he was the 4th highest paid servant.

Although influenced by Schmelzer his music is individual in style, much of it using the trumpet in a technically advanced manner for the time. Most of his instrumental output of sonatas was for ecclesiastical use. This piece has been arranged from a sonata for violins and trumpets.

Performance notes:

If timpani are not available a melodic bass instrument may discretely play this part.

Make some contrast in style between the triple sections (generally cantabile) and duple sections (leggiero but clearly articulated).

Some ornamentation is suggested but this is at the discretion of the players.

The organ part is optional but desirable.
